У Софії, в Будинку-музеї «Петко і Пенчо Славейкови», Національний літературний музей Болгарії влаштовує літературний вечір під назвою «Сон про щастя», присвячений виходу п’ятого тому зібраних творів Пенчо Славейкова — «Від Лейпцига до Брунате», упорядкованого дослідницею Катею Зографовою. Пенчо Славейков (1866–1912) — ключова постать болгарського модернізму, чия творчість поєднує філософську глибину, європейський символізм і громадянську відповідальність. На межі XIX і XX століть навколо його імені сформувалася так звана «школа Славейкова», яка стала символом нового естетичного бачення в болгарському мистецтві. Новий п’ятий том — це своєрідний літературний маршрут життя поета: від академічного Лейпцига, де він здобував філософську освіту та знайомився з модерними європейськими течіями, до альпійської самоти ітадійського Брунате, де митець провів останні дні. У книзі зібрано есе, листи, щоденникові записи, які розкривають Славейкова не лише як митця, а й як людину: пристрасного, глибоко емоційного, закоханого в Марину Бєлєву (Мару Белчеву), й водночас — переконаного інтелектуала з глибоким розумінням ролі культури. Цей том має особливу наукову цінність: він ретельно прокоментований, доповнений біографічними довідками та ілюстраціями з рукописів, що дає змогу глибше відчути добу й контекст, у якому формувався поет. Паралельно буде представлено тимчасову виставку у Домі-музеї, до якої увійдуть унікальні експонати з архіву музею. Серед них — оригінальні рукописи знакових творів «Сон про щастя» і «Кривава пісня», що вважаються одними з найвищих досягнень болгарської поезії, з авторськими нотатками та малюнками.
Pencho Slaveykov in a European Context: Marking 159 Years Since the Birth of the Bulgarian Modernist
Sofia – The National Literary Museum of Bulgaria is hosting a commemorative evening titled “A Dream of Happiness” at the Petko and Pencho Slaveykov House Museum in Sofia, celebrating the release of the fifth volume in the collected works of Pencho Slaveykov. Curated and edited by literary scholar Katya Zografova, the volume “From Leipzig to Brunate” traces one of the most formative periods in the poet’s life. Pencho Slaveykov (1866–1912) stands as a figure whose influence transcends national literary boundaries. At the turn of the 20th century, his name became central to what critics dubbed the “Slaveykov School” — a cultural and aesthetic movement that signalled a new vision for Bulgarian letters, deeply rooted in European modernist thought. The newly released fifth volume offers a literary journey through the poet’s intellectual formation: from the academic milieu of Leipzig, where he immersed himself in philosophy and modern European art movements, to the serene isolation of Brunate, a mountain village near Lake Como, where he spent his final days. The book includes a compelling selection of essays, letters, and diary entries, offering intimate insight into Slaveykov not only as a writer but as a human being — passionate, introspective, and deeply in love with poetess Mara Belcheva. At the same time, he appears as a committed intellectual, profoundly aware of culture’s power and purpose. This edition is of particular scholarly value: it is richly annotated, includes biographical references, and features facsimiles of manuscripts that allow readers to immerse themselves in the aesthetic and historical contexts of Slaveykov’s era. Alongside the launch, a temporary exhibition will open at the museum, showcasing rare artefacts from the National Literary Museum’s archives. Highlights include the original manuscripts of “A Dream of Happiness” and “Bloody Song” — two of Slaveykov’s most celebrated poetic works — complete with the poet’s handwritten notes and illustrations. These manuscripts are considered milestones in Bulgarian lyrical literature.
