Уряд Мальти оголосив про запуск нової ініціативи з розвитку місцевої кіно- та телеіндустрії. За підтримки Мальтійської ради з мистецтва (Arts Council Malta) стартувала оновлена програма Screen Support Scheme, яка у 2025 році отримає рекордне фінансування в розмірі 2 мільйони євро. Це втричі більше, ніж три роки тому, і свідчить про стратегічне прагнення держави підтримати локальні творчі проєкти та зміцнити позиції Мальти на глобальній мапі кіновиробництва. Оновлена програма спрямована на написання сценаріїв, розвиток проєктів, короткий метр, повнометражні стрічки, а також культурні ініціативи. Водночас Мальта готується прийняти низку масштабних міжнародних кінопроєктів. Серед найбільш очікуваних — третя частина популярного серіалу Enola Holmes від Netflix, режисером якого став британський постановник Філіп Барантіні. За сюжетом головна героїня у виконанні Міллі Боббі Браун знайде прихисток саме на Мальті. Крім того, триває робота над німецьким фільмом Back to the 90s, у якому задіяно понад 100 мальтійських фахівців. Зйомки проходять у таких регіонах, як Меллієха, Валлетта та Сент-Джуліанс. Ще одним значним проєктом є американський фільм The Ascent, який знімають на Мальті з бюджетом понад 4 мільйони євро. Зйомки тривають на території Malta Film Studios та в локації Міжра-ль-Ферха в Хад-Дінглі. Понад 90 учасників знімальної групи — це місцеві мешканці. Завдяки системному підходу, стратегічному фінансуванню та міжнародному визнанню Мальта поступово перетворюється на впливовий центр європейського кіновиробництва, вважають представники Arts Council Malta.
Hollywood Sets Its Sights on Malta
The Maltese government has announced a new initiative aimed at strengthening the local film and television industry. Backed by the Arts Council Malta, the revamped Screen Support Scheme will receive a record €2 million in funding in 2025 — a threefold increase compared to three years ago. This significant boost reflects the country's strategic commitment to supporting local creative projects and enhancing Malta’s position on the global film production map.The updated program covers several key areas of the industry: scriptwriting, project development, short films, full-length features, and cultural initiatives. At the same time, Malta is preparing to host a number of major international film productions. Among the most anticipated is the third installment of the popular Netflix series Enola Holmes, directed by acclaimed British filmmaker Philip Barantini. According to the plot, the main character, portrayed by Millie Bobby Brown, finds refuge on the island. Another ongoing project is the German production Back to the 90s, which involves over 100 Maltese crew members. Filming is taking place across iconic locations such as Mellieħa, Valletta, and St. Julian’s. One of the most significant productions currently underway is the American film The Ascent, which is being shot in Malta with a budget exceeding €4 million. The production is set across Malta Film Studios and Miġra l-Ferħa in Ħad-Dingli, and more than 90 members of the crew are local residents. With a strategic approach, consistent investment, and growing international recognition, Malta is steadily emerging as a powerful hub for European film production, according to representatives from the Arts Council Malta.
