Другу частину експозиції формує сучасна інсталяція нідерландської мисткині Нікі Ассман. Її світлові проєкції, що досліджують відблиски на воді та взаємодію сонячного світла з простором, переносять глядача з площини картини в повністю занурене середовище. Куратори підкреслюють, що виставка вибудовує історичну лінію від голландських майстрів XVII століття, зокрема Альберта Кейпа, через Тернера до сучасних інтерпретацій. The “Water & Light” Exhibition of Joseph Turner’s Works Reveals the Origins of His Inspiration
An exhibition opening in Dordrecht, the Netherlands, brings works by Joseph Mallord William Turner to the country for the first time from the Paul Mellon Collection. Thanks to a partnership with the Yale Center for British Art, the Dordrechts Museum is presenting ten paintings by the British master. The centrepiece is Dort or Dordrecht: The Dort Packet-Boat from Rotterdam Becalmed — a painting inspired by Turner’s impressions of Dordrecht’s quiet harbour during his 1817 visit, now returning to the city that first stirred his imagination. Joseph Mallord William Turner (1775–1851) was one of the most influential figures of British Romanticism, renowned for his pioneering treatment of light, atmosphere and seascapes. His work had a profound impact on the later development of Impressionism. The project Water & Light presents Turner as a painter of the aquatic element. His canvases capture the shifting qualities of light, humanity’s vulnerability before nature, and at the same time the dynamism of the modern world during the Industrial Revolution. In Turner’s art, water emerges both as a source of beauty and as a force of danger — a symbol of progress and peril alike. The second part of the exhibition features a contemporary installation by Dutch artist Nicky Assmann. Her light projections explore reflections on water and the interaction of sunlight with space, moving the viewer beyond the frame of the canvas into an immersive environment. Curators note that the exhibition traces a historical line from seventeenth-century Dutch masters, including Aelbert Cuyp, through Turner to contemporary interpretations. The combination of rare works by the British Romantic painter and experimental light art makes the project one of the most anticipated museum events in the Netherlands at the start of 2026.
