Українська письменниця Софія Андрухович та шведський перекладач Нільс Гокансон стали лауреатами Міжнародної літературної премії Kulturhuset Stadsteatern 2025 у Стокгольмі за перший том роману «Амадока», виданий шведською мовою у видавництві Albert Bonniers Förlag. Премія, яка щороку відзначає видатний літературний твір у професійному шведському перекладі, є унікальною тим, що нагороджує як автора, так і перекладача. Церемонія нагородження відбудеться 22 січня 2026 року у концертній залі Hörsalen у Стокгольмі, де публіка зможе поспілкуватися з обома лауреатами про книгу та процес перекладу. За словами журі, Софія Андрухович у першій частині роману «Амадока» з майстерністю досліджує болісну сучасну історію України крізь долі людей, їхні фрагментарні спогади й дивовижні історії. Усе це, як зазначили члени журі, «перекладено майже моторошно інтуїтивною шведською мовою завдяки роботі Нільса Гокансона». Письменниця, яка живе в Києві, зізналася, що сприймає нагороду як прояв солідарності з Україною:
Це велика честь — бачити, що увага світу звернена до української мови, літератури та культури, які продовжують звучати навіть у найскладніші часи. Це не лише визнання моєї праці, а й підтримка усіх мистецьких голосів мого народу, — сказала Андрухович. Нільс Гокансон — відомий шведський перекладач, письменник і дослідник, доктор славістики Уппсальського університету. Він переклав понад два десятки творів із російської, української, білоруської, німецької та англійської мов, зокрема книги Сергія Лебедєва, Марії Степанової та Варлама Шаламова. У 2021 році його книга Dolda gudar («Приховані боги») отримала Премію Аугустів як найкраща науково-популярна праця року.
Це велика честь і водночас радість — бачити, що український автор отримує таке визнання у Швеції, — зазначив перекладач. Журі премії складається з провідних шведських письменників і критиків, серед яких Мара Лі, Йонас Тенте, Юкіко Дюк, Клас Вальїн та інші представники Kulturhuset Stadsteatern. Обидва лауреати отримають по 75 000 шведських крон. Премія фінансується Kulturhuset Stadsteatern за підтримки видавництв Bonnierförlagen, Natur & Kultur та Norstedts. Цьогорічне визнання стало не лише важливою подією для шведської літературної сцени, а й символічним жестом підтримки української культури, яка, попри війну, продовжує звучати на європейській арені впевнено і гідно.
Sofia Andrukhovych and Nils Håkanzon received the prestigious Kulturhuset Stadsteatern International Literary Award 2025
Ukrainian writer Sofia Andrukhovych and Swedish translator Nils Håkanson have become the laureates of the 2025 Kulturhuset Stadsteatern International Literary Award in Stockholm for the first volume of the novel “Amadoka,” published in Swedish by Albert Bonniers Förlag. The award, which annually honors an outstanding literary work in an exceptional Swedish translation, is unique in that it recognizes both the author and the translator. The award ceremony will take place on January 22, 2026, at Hörsalen Hall in Stockholm, where the audience will have the opportunity to meet both laureates and discuss the book and the translation process. According to the jury, in the first part of “Amadoka,” Sofia Andrukhovych masterfully explores Ukraine’s painful modern history through the lives of its people, their fragmented memories, and remarkable stories. The jury also noted that “the entire work has been translated into an almost eerily intuitive Swedish thanks to the work of Nils Håkanson.” The writer, who lives in Kyiv, stated that she views the award as an act of solidarity with Ukraine: “It is a great honor to see the world’s attention directed toward the Ukrainian language, literature, and culture, which continue to live, speak, and be seen even in difficult times. This is not only recognition of my work but also a gesture of support for all artistic voices from my country,” said Andrukhovych. Nils Håkanson is a renowned Swedish translator, writer, and scholar, holding a PhD in Slavic studies from Uppsala University. He has translated more than twenty works from Russian, Ukrainian, Belarusian, German, and English, including books by Sergei Lebedev, Maria Stepanova, and Varlam Shalamov. In 2021, his book Dolda gudar (“Hidden Gods”) received the August Prize for the best nonfiction work of the year.
“It is a great honor and a joy to see a Ukrainian author receive such recognition in Sweden,” said the translator. The jury of the award consists of prominent Swedish authors and critics, including Mara Lee, Jonas Thente, Yukiko Duke, Claes Wahlin, and other representatives of Kulturhuset Stadsteatern. Both laureates will receive 75,000 Swedish kronor each. The award is funded by Kulturhuset Stadsteatern with the support of the publishing houses Bonnierförlagen, Natur & Kultur, and Norstedts. This year’s recognition has become not only an important event for the Swedish literary scene but also a symbolic gesture of support for Ukrainian culture, which continues to resonate across Europe with strength and dignity despite the war.
