У Центрі Ґервайс в Опатії відбудеться 100-те ювілейне виконання вистави «Балканський шпигун у Сараєві» — гучної театральної адаптації класичної п’єси Душана Ковачевича. The Gervais Centre in Opatija will host the 100th performance of Balkan Spy in Sarajevo, a bold and timely adaptation of Dušan Kovačević’s iconic play. Part of the Sarajevo National Theatre’s Istrian tour, this milestone underscores the production’s enduring relevance and critical acclaim. Originally written in 1983, Kovačević’s Balkan Spy is a biting satire that explores political paranoia in socialist Yugoslavia. At its heart is Ilija Čvorović, a former political prisoner who becomes convinced that his tenant—recently returned from France—is an undercover agent. The play skewers authoritarian mindsets and ideological obsession, a theme that resonated so strongly it inspired a cult film adaptation just a year later, in 1984. Director Sulejman Kupusović reimagined the narrative in modern-day Sarajevo, amplifying its commentary on distrust, religious bias, and social control. Theatre critic Almir Zalihić praised the production as “a sharp, socially charged satire that challenges audiences to confront the world around them.” Izudin Bajrović leads the cast with a powerful and nuanced interpretation of Čvorović. He has said that today’s political atmosphere allowed him to rethink the character and bring new complexity to the role.
