The latest exhibition at the Louvre, Art and Fashion: Statement Piece, offers a pioneering exploration of the symbiotic relationship between fashion and decorative arts. Running from January 24 to July 21, 2025, this exhibition invites visitors to discover how the world of fashion draws inspiration from centuries of art and design history. Spread across an expansive 9,000-square-metre space in the museum's Department of Decorative Arts, the exhibition showcases 65 iconic fashion pieces, alongside a collection of accessories, shedding new light on the ongoing dialogue between haute couture and historical masterpieces. The exhibition is divided into seven historical periods, including Byzantium, the Middle Ages, and the Napoleonic era. One of the most striking sections is the Napoleon III apartments, where visitors can admire luxurious dresses, including the iconic imperial gown designed by John Galliano for Dior, inspired by Empress Sisi. Visitors will also see garments and accessories from 45 renowned designers, including Coco Chanel, Christian Dior, Jean-Paul Gaultier, Yves Saint Laurent, and Balenciaga. Each of these designers has had a profound influence on the evolution of fashion, with their work continuing to set standards for style and elegance.
