Економічний аналіз показав, що кожне €1 інвестицій приносить €1,39 суспільної віддачі — через економічні, культурні та соціальні ефекти. Бюджет програми на 2026 рік становить €18,27 млн.
Ireland launches a permanent basic income programme for artists
The Irish government has approved a new state programme, Basic Income for the Arts (BIA) — a permanent model of financial support for creative professionals. Under the scheme, 2,000 selected artists — including visual artists, musicians, writers and other members of the creative sector — will receive €325 per week for three years. Payments will begin before the end of 2026. Practising artists residing in the Republic of Ireland will be eligible to apply. Detailed guidelines will be published in April, with applications opening in May. The programme will operate in three-year cycles, meaning participants can receive support for three out of every six years. The new scheme builds on a pilot project that demonstrated the effectiveness of regular financial support. According to research findings, participants were able to devote more time to their artistic work, produce more output, experience lower levels of financial anxiety, and report higher overall life satisfaction. An economic analysis found that every €1 invested generated €1.39 in societal return through economic, cultural and social benefits. The programme’s budget for 2026 amounts to €18.27 million.
